OVERVIEW

The Business Problem & Big Picture

Business Problem

Savaro had a highly rated mobile banking app with strong customer satisfaction scores. But in the crowded app store landscape, they were getting buried beneath legacy banks with massive marketing budgets. When users searched for terms like "online banking" or "savings account," Savaro was nowhere near the top of results on either the App Store or Google Play.
The app listing itself was underperforming. Screenshots were generic, the description lacked keyword optimization, and there was no structured strategy for managing ratings and reviews. Savaro was losing thousands of potential customers every month simply because they were invisible at the moment of highest intent: the app store search.

The Big Picture

Savaro recognized that app store optimization was not a one-time fix but an ongoing competitive advantage. With more consumers choosing their primary bank through mobile-first experiences, being discoverable at the point of search was critical to long-term growth. The goal was to dominate key banking and fintech search terms organically.
Progressive UX was engaged to build and execute a comprehensive ASO strategy. We took ownership of keyword research, creative asset optimization, A/B testing, review management, and localization. Our job was to make Savaro the first app users see, click, and download when they search for a better banking experience.

METHODOLOGY

Our Approach

We treated the app store like a storefront. Every element, from the icon to the last screenshot, was engineered to attract, convince, and convert.

01

Keyword Research & Competitive Analysis

We analyzed over 2,000 banking-related keywords, mapped competitor rankings, and identified high-volume, low-competition opportunities where Savaro could gain ground quickly.

02

Metadata Optimization

We rewrote the app title, subtitle, and description for both platforms, weaving in high-value keywords naturally while maintaining Savaro's brand voice. Every character was optimized for maximum search visibility.

03

Creative Asset Overhaul

We redesigned the app screenshots and preview videos to highlight Savaro's strongest differentiators: no fees, high-yield savings, and an intuitive interface. Each asset was crafted to stop the scroll and communicate value instantly.

04

A/B Testing Framework

We implemented a continuous testing program for icons, screenshots, descriptions, and feature graphics. Every change was validated with data before full rollout, ensuring we only shipped what converted.

05

Review & Rating Management

We built a proactive review management system that identified negative reviews for rapid response, prompted satisfied users for ratings at optimal moments, and tracked sentiment trends over time.

06

Localization Strategy

We localized the app listing for Spanish-speaking users in the US market, expanding Savora's reach to an underserved audience and capturing search traffic that competitors were ignoring.

EXECUTION

Challenges & Solutions

Competing against the largest financial institutions in app store rankings required precision and persistence.

PROBLEM 1

Dominant Incumbents

Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo had massive brand recognition and marketing spend, driving their app store rankings. Displacing them organically required outsmarting rather than outspending.

PROBLEM 2

Algorithm Opacity

App store algorithms are constantly evolving and lack transparency. What worked one month could lose effectiveness the next, requiring continuous monitoring and rapid adaptation.

PROBLEM 3

Regulatory Sensitivity

Financial services app listings must comply with strict advertising regulations. Every piece of copy and creative had to be reviewed for compliance without sacrificing marketing effectiveness.

PROBLEM 4

Review Volume Disparity

Legacy banks had hundreds of thousands of reviews. Building Savora's review volume to a competitive level required a sustainable, non-intrusive strategy that respected the user experience.

SOLUTION 1

Keyword-Optimized Listings

Fully rewritten app store metadata targeting 40+ high-intent banking keywords, with platform-specific variations for the App Store and Google Play that maximized algorithmic visibility.

SOLUTION 2

Conversion-Focused Screenshots

A redesigned screenshot sequence telling a visual story: no-fee banking, high-yield savings, easy transfers, and smart investing. Each frame was designed with bold typography and lifestyle imagery to stand out in search results.

SOLUTION 3

Continuous A/B Testing Engine

A live testing program running simultaneous experiments on icons, screenshots, and descriptions. Results were analyzed weekly, and winning variants were deployed immediately to maintain a competitive edge.

SOLUTION 4

Smart Review Solicitation

An in-app prompt system that identified satisfied users based on behavioral signals (completed transactions, positive interactions) and asked them to rate the app at moments of peak satisfaction.

SOLUTION 5

Spanish-Language Localization

A fully localized listing including translated metadata, culturally adapted screenshots, and Spanish-language preview videos that opened up a significant new acquisition channel.
